Healing Rituals Explained

If you’ve followed me for a minute, you have probably heard me talking about ritual and ceremony as part of my coaching structure. If you’ve ever wondered what exactly I mean by that…this is for you!

Ritual and ceremony are the original healing modalities of humanity. We have evidence of rituals being practiced for tens of thousands of years in every single human civilization around the globe. If someone in the village was sick, they went into ceremony for healing. While ritual and ceremony certainly have a spiritual context, they are extremely fluid and can work within any religious beliefs (or non-beliefs).

My healing rituals use sacred space, intention, breathwork, guided visualization, meditation, and spiritual tools like oracle and tarot cards to facilitate deep reflection and healing at a cellular level. We know that our cells contain the programming of up to 7 generations before us, in addition to our own life experiences. As we add more nourishing foods and habits into our life, it’s important to address healing at a deep internal level to truly shift our state of health.

My coaching clients receive a library of pre-recorded healing rituals and ceremonies to begin to build their own practice of healing and connection. We also utilize live, personalized rituals during our coaching sessions to address specific barriers you may be experiencing.

How does this look in practice?

Catherine signs up for nutrition coaching because she is struggling with anxiety, exhaustion, and wants to build healthy habits to feel more confident in her body (she has struggled with her weight her entire life). In our New Client Opening Ceremony, Catherine imagines a version of herself who is radiating confidence, wearing beautiful clothes that she feels great in, and has so much extra energy to respond calmly to her kids and partner. This helps us set intentions and goals for our time together.

In our second session, Catherine mentions that she is really hoping to lose weight with the nutrition changes we are making. When I ask Catherine why that feels like an important goal, she shares that she has always felt insecure in her body because of her weight. She had weight-loss strategies pushed on her as a pre-teen and deeply feels that there is something wrong with her body because it is bigger. As we questioned deeper, it became clear that the way Catherine wants to feel (confident, energetic, present) can happen at any size, but that a lifetime of conditioning has taught her that she needs to be smaller to feel that way.

Before our session ends, we dim the lights and pull an oracle card together. She receives a card that says “Release- Let Go”. We reflect together on that message and I guide Catherine through a meditation where she speaks to her inner child and begins to heal the harmful messaging that has formed these limiting beliefs. Catherine also has an action step of completing the pre-recorded “Self-Love Ritual” a few times before our next session to continue rewriting this old story.

Catherine is also changing her food. She is eating more protein and fiber, skipping meals less, and eating more nutrient-dense snacks. However, there is a huge difference between a health coaching model that tells you what foods to eat…and one that tells you what foods to eat while healing your relationship with your body, food, and health.
